British Ballet Organization

The Gemma Shaw School of Dancing was established in 2009. The school offers several classes to a large number of pupils in Ballet, Tap and Modern. Classes take place in Brant Broughton Village Hall. The School works with BBO Dance and offers pupils the chance to take examinations. Pupils are required to wear the BBO Dance uniform which can be purchased from Gemma Shaw.

Classical Ballet

Nursery Ballet is available for girls and boys from the age of 2.5 yrs + and covers basic ballet steps/moves as well as encouraging imagery and creativity through mime and improvisation. From 5 yrs +, children will work through the BBO Dance syllabus from Pre-Primary to Advanced level.

Tap Dance Classes

Children can start Tap Dancing from the age of 2.5 yrs+. Exploring rhythms and tempos, Tap helps develop musicality in all forms of dance. Classes begin at Nursery level and then follow the BBO Dance syllabus from pre-primary, through to advanced level. Children are welcome to start Tap at a later age and will be graded accordingly.

Modern Dance

Incorporating a range of free-work and BBO Dance syllabus work, modern dance is fun and energetic. Modern dance focuses on fitness, strength and flexibility, whilst learning steps, exercises and routines to the latest pop songs. We also study other genres of dance within Modern classes such as Musical Theatre, Jazz and Contemporary. Children can start from the age of 5 yrs +.

Musical Theatre

Our Musical Theatre classes combine Singing, Acting and Dancing. The classes are designed to be fun and engaging whilst teaching children important performance skills.

Acro Dance

Acro dance combines acro moves such as forward/backwards rolls, cartwheels, handstands, bridges and backwards walkovers etc with dance sequences and routines. Children will learn how to perform these moves safely whilst combining the artistry of dance. Children will explore many genres of dance in this class such as contemporary and commercial.

I have been dancing with Mrs Shaw for the past 9 years, I do ballet, tap and modern. Mrs Shaw is really supportive and always helps if I’m struggling. As well as working towards exams and shows, all of our classes are really fun and lively. I still enjoy my dancing today as much as I did when I first started, in fact I probably enjoy it more!

Edie (Age 12)

My daughter started ballet with Gemma as soon as she had turned 3 and has loved it ever since. Gemma has created such a supportive and engaging environment, and the quality of her teaching is exceptional. The shows at The Palace Theatre in Newark are fantastic and such a wonderful experience for the children to be part of. Parent

I love going to my dance lessons, especially modern as it is so much fun! Mrs Shaw is so good at dancing and is really kind to us all. I used to be more nervous but now I'm not. I loved doing the shows so much, especially with the beautiful costumes and the lights on the stage. Naomi, age 6.

I have been a pupil at Gemma Shaw’s School of Dancing for the last 12 years. It has been an amazing 12 years and I have loved every moment. With Mrs Shaw’s encouragement I have pursued my enjoyment of dance and have gone on to secure Associate places with two ballet schools. I enjoy it so much that I help out with the younger pupils on a Saturday. Freya (Age 14)

I really enjoy dancing as I can forget about everything else going on and be free whilst having fun with my friends! After being with Mrs Shaw for 8 years I could not imagine not doing it’ Evelyn (11yrs)
